Meet Geni
FOUNDER + PHOTOGRAPHER
Hi! I'm Geni a former marketing executive, turned photographer who founded Pink Owl Photography in 2009 in Louisville KY and 4 years later, with a move to Durham, NC expanded our studio to include North Carolina in 2013.
Born and Raised in Indiana I spent 10 years traveling and living all over the country before settling in North Carolina with my Husband and now two little girls! I love it here, and can't imagine ever leaving!
Photography runs deep in my bones, both my Dad and Aunt were excellent amateur photographers. At age 7, I started dressing up my younger sisters, doing their hair and make up, and creating photography “sets” with every house plant I could drag to our playroom! Its pretty cool to reflect on my younger years and see how my passion has come full circle. I have a deep passion & desire to show women their beauty, and not the beauty standard that some magazine created 50 years ago. The beauty that sparkles in your eyes when you discover your inner confidence, thats my goal!
When I’m not on a photoshoot you can find me out and about looking for the next adventure with my 2.5 & 5.5 year old girls. We love to explore in nature, jump rocks in the creek, and discover the newest ice cream or coffee shop! I love football, bunny rabbits, bike-riding and the quiet reflection that comes with a long shower, plane ride or drive!

MAKE UP ARTIST
Doing hair and makeup professionally is my dream come true. Ever since I was little I would sit in my room and play hair and makeup with my Barbie dolls. In college, I worked my very first retail makeup job over 14 years ago, and I’ve never looked back!I have worked on teams for New York fashion week and as an active member for Charleston Fashion Week hair and makeup team. I own my own business, Awakened Beauty, and I have worked with Pink Owl for over 7 years!When you are in my chair, there is nothing I love more than to help you see your own beauty — with or without makeup!I quote Schitt’s Creek way too much, and hoard fashion magazines. I will forever love a glam ponytail and mixing 5 shades of lipstick to get the perfect color!
